Open any two of these platforms side by side and the artificial intelligence (AI) feature list reads almost identically: an AI copywriter, AI subject lines, AI send-time optimization, AI segmentation. The bolted-on AI is now table stakes, which means it is the worst thing to shop on. The performance numbers vendors attach to it are self-reported and unbenchmarked: MailerLite's "13.7% more opens," tinyAlbert's "6X higher sales," Benchmark's claimed 50% open-rate lift. Treat those as marketing, not proof. The numbers that actually decide your bill are the two least trustworthy on every pricing page: the headline monthly price and the word "free."

Cost escalation as your list grows is among the most common complaints across this entire field. Reviewers describe prices that multiply after a migration, per-profile scaling that spikes as contacts climb, and tier jumps like HubSpot's leap to $800/mo plus a $3,000 onboarding fee. Meanwhile "free" ranges from a 250-contact cap at Mailchimp, Klaviyo, and Omnisend all the way to Kit's 10,000 subscribers. So the real decision is not which tool has AI. It is which escalation curve you are signing up for, and which type of business each tool is built to serve.

This guide ranks 22 tools, but it is organized to answer the question you are actually asking: which one is easy (ideally free) to start, fits your kind of business, and will not ambush you with a bigger bill the moment your list grows. Start with the tables and the by-business-type guide, then read the detailed entry for your shortlist.

The short answer

For most creators and small businesses, Brevo is the best all-around pick: a free-forever plan with no credit card, scaling into transparent tiers from $9/mo. From there the choice bends to your situation. Kit offers one of the highest free-tier subscriber caps, up to 10,000 subscribers. MailerLite and Sender are among the cheapest, easiest on-ramps. If you sell on Shopify, Klaviyo or Omnisend fit the ecommerce workflow better than a general tool. And if you want deep automation with the widest integration library, ActiveCampaign leads, provided you can absorb its rising cost.

Category	Winner	Why in one line
Best value	Brevo	Free-forever plan into transparent $9/mo tiers, with ease of use and affordability among the most-cited reviewer praise.
Best for beginners	MailerLite	4.7/5 across 2,318 Capterra reviews, led by ease of use for non-technical users.
Best free tier by headcount	Kit	10,000 subscribers before you pay a cent, one of the highest starting caps on this list.
Best integrations	ActiveCampaign	1,000+ app integrations including Salesforce, WooCommerce, Zapier, Make, and Google Ads.
Most dependable	HubSpot	299,000+ customers, SOC 2 Type II and SOC 3 certifications, annual third-party audits.

The full ranking at a glance

Prices below are the entry figures each vendor published at the time of research. Three tools (Constant Contact, Campaign Monitor, and Drip) blocked the pricing check with an HTTP 403 response, so their exact current figures could not be verified from the source and are flagged as such.

What the "free" plan actually gets you

A "free tier" boolean hides enormous variation. Eleven of the 22 tools have a genuine free-forever plan, and they are not remotely comparable. Kit lets you hold 10,000 subscribers before you pay a cent. Mailchimp, Klaviyo, and Omnisend cut you off at 250. Some plans meter contacts, others meter monthly sends, and at least one quietly time-boxes support.

Tool	Free contact or subscriber cap	Monthly send limit	The catch to know
Brevo	Not stated	300 emails/day	Advanced AI and extra seats gated to paid tiers
Klaviyo	250 active profiles	500 emails/month	Email support ends after 60 days; no phone support on any tier
MailerLite	250 subscribers	2,500 emails/month	Account approval and domain checks reported as strict
beehiiv	2,500 subscribers	Unlimited sends	10 AI credits/day; free to 2,500, then $43/mo billed annually
HubSpot	Up to 2 users	2,000 sends/month	Next real tier is $800/mo plus a $3,000 onboarding fee
Mailchimp	250 contacts	500 sends/month (250/day)	Then $13/mo promo, climbing fast after; phone support on the top tier only
SendPulse	500 subscribers	15,000 emails/month	Support quality reported as slow by reviewers
Kit	10,000 subscribers	Unlimited broadcasts	Free to 10,000, then $33/mo, which itself only covers 1,000 subscribers
Omnisend	250 contacts	500 emails/month	Full AI personalization without usage fees is Pro-only
Sender	2,500 subscribers	15,000 emails/month, no daily limit	Narrower native integration list than rivals
Benchmark Email	500 contacts	2,500 sends/month	Very thin integrations; deliverability complaints reported

Read that table as a range, not a checkbox. If your list is a few hundred contacts and you send occasionally, Brevo's daily cap, Kit's 10,000-subscriber ceiling, or Sender's 15,000 monthly emails will each carry you free for a long time. If it is already near a few thousand, the 250-contact plans are effectively a trial in disguise.

Why the bill balloons as your list grows

Almost every tool here charges by contact count, active profile, or subscriber tier, so the entry price is usually a teaser quoted at 500 or 1,000 contacts. Here is where the sharpest next cliffs actually sit.

Klaviyo publishes no static paid-tier rate card at all: its figures surface only through an on-site calculator tied to your active-profile count, and reviewers describe the increases as "insane" as lists grow. Kit's free plan is among the most generous on this list at 10,000 subscribers, but the first paid tier, Creator at $33/mo, covers only 1,000, so crossing the free ceiling can mean paying more for a smaller allowance. HubSpot is transparent but steep: the jump from the $7/mo Starter seat to Professional is $800/mo plus a one-time $3,000 onboarding fee, and Enterprise runs $3,600/mo plus $7,000 onboarding.

The subscription tools climb more quietly, and the research names specific curves. ActiveCampaign runs $15 to $49 to $79 per month at 1,000 contacts across Starter, Plus, and Pro, and one reviewer reported costs rising "7 times" after an account migration. beehiiv goes from a free 2,500-subscriber plan to $43/mo, then $96/mo, both billed annually, as you scale. Encharge starts at $99/mo but caps that Growth plan at just 2,000 subscribers, with per-100,000-email overage fees on top. AWeber's Lite plan opens at $12.49/mo for 500 subscribers and scales all the way to $6,000/yr at 100,000. The lesson: price the tool at the list size you expect in a year, not the one you have today.

How to choose by business type

Find your archetype below, then read the ranked entries for the two or three names it points you to.

If you run a newsletter or creator business

Look at beehiiv (rank 5) and Kit (rank 9). Both are built around publishing and monetization rather than CRM-style marketing, with growth tools, paid subscriptions, and creator-specific features. Kit's free plan holds 10,000 subscribers; beehiiv's holds 2,500 with unlimited sends, and its paid Scale plan adds a built-in ad network.

If you sell on Shopify or run an ecommerce store

Look at Klaviyo (rank 2) and Omnisend (rank 12) first, then Drip (rank 22) and, for Shopify-only merchants, tinyAlbert (rank 21). These are built around store data, cart recovery, and revenue attribution. Klaviyo goes deepest on segmentation; Omnisend is the gentler, cheaper on-ramp; tinyAlbert is the low-cost, pre-built option at $3/mo.

If you want one general-purpose all-in-one tool

Look at Brevo (rank 1), MailerLite (rank 3), Mailchimp (rank 7), HubSpot (rank 6), and ActiveCampaign (rank 4). These cover email plus automation, and often SMS, landing pages, and CRM, for a small business with no dedicated email specialist. Brevo wins on value, MailerLite on ease, HubSpot on dependability, and ActiveCampaign on automation depth and integrations.

If you mainly want AI to write and format the emails

Look at Hoppy Copy (rank 18) and Mailmodo (rank 10). Hoppy Copy is a dedicated AI copywriting and newsletter tool that lets you pick between GPT, Claude, Gemini, or Perplexity models. Mailmodo is built around interactive AMP emails with embedded forms, polls, and quizzes.

The 22 tools, ranked

1. Brevo, the best-value all-in-one for most small businesses

Brevo is the pick for the reader this guide is written for: a creator or small business that wants an affordable, do-everything tool rather than a specialist enterprise sender. It combines email, SMS, WhatsApp, and a CRM, and its free-forever plan scales into transparent pricing. That combination is why it also takes Best value.

Pricing: Free (300 emails/day, no card), then Starter at $9/mo from 5,000 emails/month. The next step, Standard at $18/mo, adds AI send-time optimization and removes Brevo branding.

Strengths

AI spread across the funnel: the Aura content generator, AI send-time optimization, and AI segmentation.
Strong, high-volume sentiment: 4.5/5 across 2,666 G2 reviews and 4.6/5 across 3,486 Capterra reviews.
Well-capitalized and mature: founded 2012, 600K customers, and a EUR 500 million funding round in December 2025.

Weaknesses

Reviewers report slow or inconsistent support on non-premium accounts.
A learning curve on advanced automation, forms, and contact-attribute setup.
The AI Data Analyst, AI segmentation, and multi-user seats sit behind the $499/mo Professional tier.

2. Klaviyo, the deep-segmentation choice for serious ecommerce

Klaviyo is the ecommerce power tool. Reviewers call its automation builder "the most advanced and customizable out there," and its predictive analytics for churn, lifetime value, and next-order-date are a real differentiator. Pick it if you run a mid-size to large online store and want depth. Skip it if you are very small and budget-conscious, because the per-profile pricing is its defining drawback.

Pricing: Free up to 250 active profiles (500 emails/month, 150 SMS credits, 10,000 Composer credits). Paid tiers are not published as a rate card at all: pricing surfaces only through an on-site calculator tied to your active-profile count.

Strengths

AI-native features: the Composer agent turns a prompt into a campaign, and Segment AI builds segments from plain-language prompts.
350+ pre-built integrations spanning Shopify, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, and Adobe Commerce, plus a public API.
Strong verified sentiment: 4.6/5 across 530 Capterra reviews, with the automation builder singled out.
Deep security posture: SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001, ISO 27017, and PCI DSS certifications.

Weaknesses

Per-profile pricing is the top recurring complaint, described as "insane" as lists grow.
Editor bugs, slow performance, and a steep beginner learning curve are reported.
Free-plan email support ends after 60 days, and there is no phone support on any tier.

3. MailerLite, the best on-ramp for beginners

MailerLite wins Best for beginners because it optimizes relentlessly for ease over depth. A clean, intuitive interface that non-technical users pick up quickly earns it a 2025 G2 "Easiest to Use" award. Choose it if simplicity and price matter more than enterprise-grade feature depth.

Pricing: Free up to 250 subscribers (2,500 emails/month), then Comfort at $12/mo, which adds 50 visual automations and the AI writing assistant. Power at $25/mo lifts the subscriber, automation, and email caps under a fair-use policy.

Strengths

AI writing assistant and subject-line generator built into the drag-and-drop editor on paid plans.
Consistently high satisfaction (4.7/5, 2,318 Capterra reviews) led by ease of use.
ISO/IEC 27001:2022-certified data centers in Germany and the Netherlands, with Data Privacy Framework compliance.

Weaknesses

The "13.7% more opens" claim for AI subject lines is self-reported, not independently benchmarked.
Users report a strict, sometimes confusing account-approval and domain-authentication process.
Editor customization and template variety are described as limited.

4. ActiveCampaign, the best integrations and automation for growing teams

ActiveCampaign takes Best integrations on the strength of its huge connector library, and reviewers consistently praise its automation builder for handling complex, multi-step workflows. It suits a growing business that needs deep automation and CRM-style personalization and can accept a bill that rises with list size. That escalation is the catch, and reviewers are blunt about it.

Pricing: No permanent free plan, only a 14-day trial. At 1,000 contacts, Starter is $15/month, Plus $49/month, and Pro $79/month, the climb reviewers warn about.

Strengths

Widely praised automation builder for complex, multi-step marketing workflows.
1,000+ integrations including Salesforce, WooCommerce, Zapier, Make, and Google Ads, plus API access.
Strong compliance: SOC 2, GDPR, and HIPAA compliance with a public Trust Center.
An AI layer (Active Intelligence 2.8) offering memory, custom instructions, and brand-consistent content.

Weaknesses

Price escalates sharply as contact lists grow, with one reviewer reporting a "7 times" increase after account migration.
New users cite UI and navigation complexity stemming from the feature depth.
Occasional gaps reported in CRM fields and automation trigger reliability.

5. beehiiv, the newsletter-first platform with built-in monetization

beehiiv is built for creators and media publishers who want to publish and get paid in one place, not for teams needing CRM-style automation. Its distinguishing feature is native monetization: paid tiers add an ad network with a 0% take rate on paid subscriptions, alongside digital products and a sponsorship storefront.

Pricing: Free up to 2,500 subscribers with unlimited sends, then Scale at $43/mo and Max at $96/mo, both billed annually.

Beyond monetization, the platform ships an extensive public API spanning 20+ object categories, and more than 100,000 newsletters run on it after a $33M Series B led by NEA. The deciding weakness is cost discipline: the jump off the free plan draws steady complaints, and AI usage stays credit-capped even on paid tiers at 10, 25, and 50 generations per day. Pick beehiiv if publishing and audience revenue matter more than deep automation; look elsewhere if you need CRM-grade workflows.

6. HubSpot, the most dependable all-in-one, if you can absorb the tiers

HubSpot earns Most dependable on scale and governance, including an explicit policy that third-party AI providers cannot train their models on HubSpot customer data. Its free tier and $7/mo Starter seat are approachable; the anxiety is what comes next.

Pricing: Free (2,000 marketing email sends/month, up to 2 users) and a $7/mo Starter seat are approachable. The cliff is Professional at $800/mo including 3 seats plus a one-time $3,000 onboarding fee, rising to Enterprise at $3,600/mo plus $7,000 onboarding.

Strengths

AI-assisted email content and subject-line suggestions built into the email tool.
Deep native integration with HubSpot's own CRM and Salesforce for lifecycle personalization.
Strong reputation: 4.5/5 across 6,241 Capterra reviews.
Explicit policy that third-party AI providers cannot train their models on HubSpot customer data.

Weaknesses

Steep tier jumps: Professional is $800/mo plus $3,000 onboarding, Enterprise $3,600/mo plus $7,000 onboarding.
A real learning curve for advanced automation, custom reporting, and conditional logic.
Email and landing-page design customization is described as restrictive versus design-first tools.

7. Mailchimp, the familiar all-in-one that gets pricey past free

Mailchimp is the default many businesses reach for, and it is the most-reviewed tool here by a wide margin. It is a capable, AI-augmented email and SMS platform well suited to small and mid-size businesses and ecommerce brands. The two recurring cautions: costs climb quickly beyond free, and its most advanced AI and automation are gated to pricier plans.

Pricing: Free (250 contacts, 500 sends/month or 250/day), then Essentials at $13/mo, advertised as 50% off for 12 months, for up to 1,500 contacts. Standard at $20/mo adds generative AI, and the Premium ceiling reaches $350/mo.

Strengths

Deep AI set: Write with AI, Content Optimizer, Send Time and Day Optimization, and Predictive Segmentation.
300+ integrations across ecommerce, CRM, design, and point-of-sale (POS) categories.
High satisfaction: 4.5/5 across 17,642 Capterra reviews, the largest review base in this guide.

Weaknesses

Reviewers say costs "climb faster than expected as your list grows."
Several flagship AI features are beta or "coming soon" and limited to English and select countries.
Phone or priority support is reserved for higher tiers, and support quality is described as inconsistent.

8. SendPulse, the affordable multichannel option with slow-support caveats

SendPulse bundles email with chatbots (Instagram, WhatsApp, Telegram, and more), SMS, and a CRM at a low price, making it a fit for a small business that wants many channels in one affordable tool. The consistent knock is support: reviewers repeatedly call it slow or unresponsive.

Pricing: Free (15,000 emails/month to up to 500 subscribers, no card), then Standard at $12/mo for unlimited emails to 500 subscribers.

The appeal is breadth for the money: an AI writing assistant spanning multiple models with translation into 10 languages, plus broad integrations (Salesforce, HubSpot, Shopify, WooCommerce, Zapier, Make) and a consistent 4.6/5 across roughly 1,487 combined reviews. The deciding weakness is service and polish: support is repeatedly called slow, and the UI is described as outdated and cluttered. Choose it if you want many channels cheaply and can tolerate thin support.

9. Kit, the most generous free tier for creators

Kit (formerly ConvertKit) is purpose-built for individual creators: bloggers, course sellers, YouTubers, and newsletter writers, rather than enterprise teams. Its headline advantage is a free tier covering up to 10,000 subscribers, one of the highest starting caps of any tool here. That makes it the natural first stop for a growing newsletter watching its budget.

Pricing: Free to 10,000 subscribers, then Creator at $33/mo, which covers only 1,000.

Beyond the free cap, Kit brings creator-specific tooling: visual automations, digital product and subscription sales, RSS campaigns, and a Creator Network, with a claimed 99.8% average delivery rate. The deciding weakness is what happens after the free tier: paid pricing scales quickly with subscriber count, which reviewers call punitive, and template design is limited with no direct HTML or CSS editing.

10. Mailmodo, the specialist for interactive AMP emails

Mailmodo is a different animal, built around interactive AMP emails that embed forms, polls, quizzes, and surveys directly in the inbox, backed by an AI toolset for templates, automation, and segmentation. It suits ecommerce and SaaS teams chasing engagement, with named results like foundit at +400% registrations and bigbasket at 6X email engagement. The structural catch that decides fit: AMP interactivity does not render in Outlook desktop.

Pricing: No permanent free plan. Lite at $25/mo (2,000 email credits, 1 team member), then Standard at $75/mo.

The reason to pick Mailmodo is that interactive AMP format, validated by named case studies and backed by SOC 2 Type 2 compliance with annual penetration testing. The catches that decide fit are structural: AMP interactivity does not render in Outlook desktop clients, the builder is not true drag-and-drop, and SMTP setup is reported as picky. It suits engagement-focused teams whose audiences are not Outlook-heavy.

11. GetResponse, the broad all-in-one with a compliance-enforcement caution

GetResponse packs an unusually broad stack into one subscription, with AI content generation and send-time optimization layered in. It fits an SMB or ecommerce seller wanting everything in one login. Two anxieties apply directly here: reviewers report costs climbing with list size, and there are reports of account suspensions with blocked contact exports under strict compliance enforcement.

Pricing: No permanent free plan, only a 14-day trial. Starter at $19/mo covers up to 1,000 contacts but caps AI tools to 3 uses; Marketer at $59/mo adds unlimited automation workflows.

The draw is breadth in one login: email, landing pages, automation, ecommerce, webinars, and courses, with GDPR compliance independently audited by Bureau Veritas. The deciding cautions are portability and cost: reviewers report costs climbing with list size, and there are reports of account suspensions that left users unable to export contacts. Weigh that portability risk before committing a large list.

12. Omnisend, the gentler ecommerce on-ramp with a real free plan

Omnisend is the ecommerce alternative to Klaviyo for stores that want AI-assisted campaigns on a proven multichannel core without the steepest pricing. Pick it over Klaviyo if you want easier setup and published tiers; look elsewhere if you need the deepest segmentation.

Pricing: Free (250 contacts, 500 emails/month), then Standard at $11.20/mo (500 contacts, 6,000 emails/month). Pro at $41.30/mo unlocks AI personalization without usage fees.

Strengths

Deep native ecommerce integrations: 200+ connectors including Shopify, Shopify Plus, BigCommerce, and WooCommerce.
High-volume positive sentiment: 4.6/5 across 1,185 G2 reviews.
Permanent free plan alongside transparently published paid tiers.

Weaknesses

Usage-fee-free AI personalization is gated to the Pro tier.
AI features are undocumented at the model level, with no disclosed vendor or architecture.
Reviewers cite rising costs at scale and limited template customization.

13. Moosend, the budget all-in-one now under Constant Contact

Moosend is a low-cost, easy-to-use platform with a built-in AI Writer, now backed by Constant Contact after acquisition. Reviewers switch to it from Mailchimp and ActiveCampaign for the price. It fits a small or mid-size business that wants affordability and simplicity over a marquee AI feature set.

Pricing: No permanent free plan, only a 30-day trial capped at 1,000 contacts. Pro starts at $10/mo for 500 contacts, with never-expiring pay-as-you-go credits for occasional senders.

The value case is real: a no-code editor with a 4.5/5 Capterra ease-of-use score, 80+ integrations, and the stability of Constant Contact ownership. The limits that decide fit are a missing dedicated mobile app, a sub-par mobile web experience, and advanced features like SSO and dedicated IPs locked behind a separate custom-quote tier. Pick it for affordability and simplicity over a marquee feature set.

14. Sender, one of the cheapest, most support-praised on-ramps

Sender pairs one of the most generous free plans here with very low entry pricing and standout support ratings. Alongside MailerLite, it is the easiest, cheapest place for a budget-conscious beginner, freelancer, or nonprofit to start. The trade-off is a narrower integration list and one documented account-suspension case.

Pricing: Free Forever (up to 2,500 subscribers, 15,000 emails/month, no daily limits), then Standard from $7/mo and Professional from $14/mo.

What sets Sender apart is support, rated 4.9/5 for customer service across 211 Capterra reviews, on top of a genuinely generous free plan that includes automation and landing pages. The trade-offs are a narrower native integration list (WordPress, WooCommerce, PrestaShop, Shopify, Zapier) than category leaders and one documented account-suspension case without clear notice. Alongside MailerLite, it is among the cheapest places for a budget-conscious beginner or nonprofit to start.

15. Constant Contact, the established beginner tool with unverifiable current pricing

Constant Contact is a long-established platform whose most consistently praised trait is ease of use. It suits small businesses and nonprofits that prize simplicity over deep automation. Two honest cautions: its pricing could not be verified this round because every plan page returned an HTTP 403 bot block, and the company states it gives no direct guarantee against loss of customer data.

Pricing: Not verified. The /pricing, /lite, and /standard pages all returned HTTP 403, so current tier prices could not be confirmed from the source. There is no permanent free plan, only a 30-day trial capped at 100 total email sends.

Its most consistently praised trait is ease of use (Capterra 4.3/5), paired with a native AI Content Generator for email, SMS, and social copy and a bidirectional Salesforce sync. The cautions carry weight: reviewers say contact-based pricing escalates quickly for large lists with infrequent sends, and the company states it gives no direct guarantee against loss of customer data. It suits small businesses and nonprofits that prize simplicity over deep automation.

16. AWeber, the veteran with standout human support

Founded in 1998, AWeber is the elder statesman here, and its best asset is human support, consistently praised by reviewers. It has layered lightweight AI content tools onto a mature email, automation, and landing-page product. Choose it if you are a beginner who values a human on the phone over flashier AI add-ons. The recent sore point is a December 2024 price increase.

Pricing: No permanent free plan, only a 14-day trial. Lite starts at $12.49/mo billed annually for 500 subscribers and scales to $6,000/yr at 100,000; Plus is $19.99/mo billed annually with unlimited lists and users.

The reason to choose AWeber is human support: 24/7 live chat, email, and phone, consistently praised, on a mature product with 750+ integrations and a 27-year track record. The drawbacks are a dated, clunky interface, AI features that are basic add-ons rather than differentiators, and a December 2024 price increase that dominates recent complaints. Pick it if you value a human on the phone over flashier AI.

17. Encharge, the SaaS lifecycle-automation specialist

Encharge is aimed at B2B SaaS teams that need behavior-based lifecycle email: onboarding, trial-to-paid, and behavior-triggered flows, with light AI for subject-line generation. Reviewers single out its visual flow builder for ease. It is not for buyers wanting a general AI-native email tool, and its entry price is high for a small list.

Pricing: No permanent free plan, only a 14-day trial. Growth at $99/mo caps at just 2,000 subscribers, with per-100,000-email overage fees; Premium at $159/mo adds HubSpot, Salesforce, WooCommerce/Shopify, and transactional email.

Reviewers single out the visual flow builder for ease, giving it a 9.3 G2 Ease of Use score and 4.7/5 across 353 reviews on solid lifecycle-automation foundations. The deciding limits are a high entry price for a small list, the 2,000-subscriber cap on the Growth plan, and a reported data-export failure after account termination. It is not the pick if you want a general AI-native email tool.

18. Hoppy Copy, the dedicated AI copywriting tool

Hoppy Copy is a purpose-built AI email writing platform for solo creators, coaches, and small teams that want a dedicated writing and automation tool rather than deep native ESP integrations. Its distinguishing move is letting you pick the underlying model. The limits are integration depth and a thin review base.

Pricing: No permanent free plan, only a no-card 7-day trial. Starter at $29/mo (20,000 words/month, 1,000 subscribers), then Pro at $49/mo (100,000 words/month, 3,000 subscribers).

The distinguishing move is letting you pick the underlying model, GPT, Claude, Gemini, or Perplexity, on a copywriting-first tool with brand-voice memory, auto-newsletters, sequences, and a spam checker. The limits that decide fit are integration depth, with nothing native beyond Shopify and most ESP and CRM links routing through Zapier, and a thin 14-review base with no stated security certifications. It suits solo creators and small teams who want a dedicated writing tool over deep ESP integration.

19. Campaign Monitor, the simple ESP with pricing behind a bot block

Campaign Monitor is a mature, easy-to-use email service provider now owned by Marigold, with newly added lightweight AI features (Segment Mapper, AI Email Booster). It fits small and mid-size businesses that want simple campaign creation over deep automation. Be aware that its pricing page blocked the check, and reviewers describe billing at higher send volumes as unclear.

Pricing: Not verified. The /pricing page returned HTTP 403, so exact prices could not be confirmed. The knowledge base confirms three tiers, Lite, Essentials, and Premier, with Lite capped at 2,500 traditional-send emails.

The strengths are a review-corroborated drag-and-drop builder that new staff learn quickly and responsive phone support, serving named customers like Nike and the World Health Organization. The cautions: reviewers describe billing at higher send volumes as unclear and escalating, advanced automation as clunky for larger accounts, and the platform explicitly does not support HIPAA-protected health data or GLBA financial data. It fits small and mid-size businesses wanting simple campaigns over deep automation.

20. Benchmark Email, the budget tool with deliverability caveats

Benchmark Email is a budget-oriented, easy-to-use platform that bundles OpenAI-powered AI copywriting and design tools in at no extra fee. It suits teams wanting fast, simple campaign creation. Two cautions carry weight: reviewers report deliverability problems including bounces at major corporations, and an October 2025 redesign reportedly moved automation, A/B testing, and sign-up forms to a legacy Classic product.

Pricing: Free (500 contacts, 2,500 sends/month, 1 user), then Pro from $27/mo, with a $15/mo charge per additional user.

The value case is a genuine free tier plus bundled OpenAI-powered copywriting, design, and image generation at no separate AI fee, on a platform reviewers find easy to use. Two cautions carry real weight: recurring deliverability complaints including bounces at major corporations, and an October 2025 redesign that reportedly moved automation, A/B testing, and sign-up forms into a legacy Classic product. Native integrations are also very thin, described by the company itself as "two and growing."

21. tinyAlbert, the $3 Shopify-only automation app

tinyAlbert is one of the lowest-priced paid entries on this list and the narrowest: a Shopify-only AI app that builds lifecycle flows for you rather than making you assemble campaigns by hand. It suits small and mid Shopify merchants who want pre-built automation at a low price. Its headline performance claims are unverified marketing, and support quality is reported as inconsistent.

Pricing: No permanent free plan, only a 7-day trial. The base plan is $3 USD/month for 100 subscribers, scaling at +$3/month per additional 100 customers.

The draw is price and hands-off automation: pre-built cart recovery, welcome, browse-abandonment, and win-back flows with one-click activation and a 4.6/5 Shopify App Store rating. The deciding caveats are that it is Shopify-only with no general API, support quality is reported as inconsistent (including AI replies posing as human agents), and its headline claims ("6X higher sales," "20% more opens guaranteed") are unverified marketing. It fits small Shopify merchants who want pre-built automation at a low price.

22. Drip, the ecommerce automation tool that blocked verification

Drip is an established ecommerce-focused email and SMS automation platform for Shopify-centric direct-to-consumer brands that want behavior-based segmentation. The significant caveat this round: its own site blocked every check with an HTTP 403 response, so its AI-feature claims and exact pricing could not be independently verified, and its WooCommerce support runs through a separate paid plugin rather than a native connection.

Pricing: Not verified. Drip's pricing page, homepage, and help center returned HTTP 403 on every attempt. Capterra's vendor-reported listing cites a $39/month starting price with a free trial, but this third-party figure could not be confirmed from the source.

The strength is a no-code visual workflow builder praised across 188 reviews (4.4/5, 91% positive), with strong native Shopify integration and behavior-based segmentation. The deciding caveats: the official site blocked every verification attempt, so AI-feature and pricing claims are unverified, and WooCommerce support runs through a separate paid plugin ($99/yr) rather than a native connection. Reviewers also report pricing increases as lists grow without guaranteed grandfathering.

Frequently asked questions

Which tools offer real or fast customer support, including phone support?

AWeber stands out for offering 24/7 live chat, email, and phone support, consistently praised by reviewers. Sender earns a 4.9/5 customer-service rating on Capterra, and MailerLite, Omnisend, and Moosend are praised for responsive support. On the caution side, Brevo's support is reported as slow without a premium plan, SendPulse's is repeatedly called slow, Mailchimp gates phone support to its top tier, and Klaviyo offers no phone support on any tier and ends free-plan email support after 60 days.

What happens to my contacts if I outgrow a tool and want to leave?

Portability is the quiet risk in this category, and the research surfaces several cautions worth weighing before you commit a large list. GetResponse has reports of account suspensions under strict compliance enforcement that left users unable to export their contacts, and Sender has one documented suspension without clear notice. Encharge drew a complaint of no usable data export after account termination. Drip users report price increases as lists grow with no guaranteed grandfathering. Confirm the export path and read the acceptable-use policy up front, because the cost of leaving is easy to overlook until you need to.
